Wog This Way

Wogging My Way To a Healthier Me

Fear of the Unknown Race Course

I have a half marathon in nine days. My training has been lacking, mostly because oh my extremely tight calves, and doctors orders to reduce high intensity exercise. I know that I can complete 13.1 miles, it is in me and I will.

The thing that screws with me about Fueled By Fine Wine is that they change the course every year. It takes place during a hot time of year (that is subjective since I live in Oregon), partially in vineyard and partially on asphalt, and is uphill for very long stretches. When you can mentally see yourself on a course, it takes one more stress out of it all. Now, yes they publish the course, but it is convenient to go run it ahead of time, I have drive pieces of it. It is different than imagining the course under your feet, this is one of the ways I take away the stress before a race. So, Fueled by Fine Wine really screws with my pre-race anti-anxiety precautions, but luckily not my enjoyment of wogging a half marathon.

Do you have a pre-race ritual?

Shoes That Make Me Squeal

Shoes That Make Me Squeal

Sometimes you just want to buy shoes that make you want to put them on. That way you’ll want to get out the door and do that workout. These actually make me think about doing jumping jacks for fun!

Do you have a motivating color or item of workout clothing?

My Heart is with Boston

I get really excited for the Boston Marathon, I love to follow the leader board, tracking Kara and Shalane today. I logged in as soon as I got to work this morning, looking at paces following coverage. Does it blow anyone else’s mind how fast these people run? I mean consistent 10mph for 2:30!!! So impressive!

My husband and I have some friends who are there running, so I check in on them also.

Then my husband texts me “There has been an explosion in Boston”

I Google it, my heart hurts. Not only do these runners train, qualify, and put there hearts and soles/souls into this race, but so does the city of Boston. Why would you so senselessly hurt all of these people?
Honestly, I can’t stop reading, I don’t know what will change, it just seems to keep getting worse and more gruesome.  People are already predicting how this will change racing for the future. Right now, I just want peace, love, and comfort to be with everyone who is in Boston. Their loved ones who are elsewhere wondering who they are, bring them peace.

Hug someone you love and remember something you love about Boston tonight!
